why does my laptop battery die so quickly?
When i bought my laptop 7 or 8 months ago the battery life was about 2 hours and now its about 1.75 hours. Its an hp with 2.0 core dou, 4gb mem, 320 hd. Other laptops, hp, get 4-6 on average with the same specs. Im also running linux on here which is alot less cpu intensive as vista, but that doesn’t help out that much. So is it a hardware difference?

The best way to get the most life out of your battery, and to keep it fresh and healthy, is to use the entire battery to 0%, than recharge it all the way to 100% before resuming use on the battery. The reason why it died is probably because you didn’t condition the battery when you first got the laptop, or you stuck the laptop on the charger several times while it still had half a battery left.
Rechargeable batteries are such a pain in the butt aren’t they :p
Also, check your screen brightness and power settings in your distributions settings. It will be under your distributions “Power Settings”. You might have your hard disk “Always On” or your brightness maxed. It helps to have it dimmed and keep the hard disk from spinning all the time. check those preferences as well.
Also there are a few types of cell batteries, 3-cell, 6-cell, and 12-cell, and so on and so forth. You might have gotten a smaller battery. such as a 3-cell. consider investing in a more powerful battery.

This time it has launched its new notebook HP DV2 701 TU which comes with Intel 1.46GHz Pentium Dual Core Processor, 1GB RAM which is upgradeable up to 4GB and 160GB HDD. The screen of HP DV2 701 TU is 14.1″. The notebook also comes with an integrated Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X3100 video card. It is the primary chip of the system that oversees all the other components of the system. It controls the execution of program instructions.
Key Features
The memory of the HP DV2 701 TU is the process Cache Memory which is 1024 KB. This Cache memory is considered as a mediator between the main physical RAM and the CPU. The cache makes any data regularly used by CPU instantly obtainable. If the required information is not located in the collection, a fetch is made from the main memory.
There are a couple of things missing in HP DV2 701 TU. They are the CD ROM Drive, DVD Drive and Combo Drive. But one positive thing to be noticed over here is the presence of DVD Writer Drive.
