How can we help our mom after surgery?
Here’s the deal, my mom has to have a hysterectomy in a couple weeks. After surgery she will have 2-4 weeks of basically bed rest where she can’t work or drive. She is a teacher so I think this could be difficult because she usually doesn’t have time to herself. We are planning to redo her room so she has a new TV, pillows, reading material, and a table for her laptop to rest on.
My question is if anyone who has ever has a hysterectomy or any kind of surgery that required bed rest, what do you wish someone would have done for you. Or even what did someone do that was really great?

You sound like such great kids. I had a hysterectomy and was basically out of functioning for about three months, but had other complications. In a few days, she should be able to get up and walk around and go to the bathroom and such. The more she tries to move around the better off she will be. I don’t mean housework, but she should not just lay in bed for 4 weeks or her legs will get weak and she will take longer to recover. The things you have planned are great and will be very helpful in her recovery. Other things you can do is be really GOOD and don’t do things that cause her to be stressed. You can do your homework and clean your rooms and show her how much you care by helping with dinner and maybe leaving her a plate for lunch the next day. She won’t feel like cooking for herself during the day. You can do dishes and help with laundry and anything else that you are old enough to do. In that way, she won’t worry about things not being done and will know how much you love her.
Don’t worry about her because she will be fine and before you know it, she will be as good as new and back to her old self.
