Laptop Hard Drive Sata Adapter

Hard drive running on a computer, but not other 2?
The power adapter on my laptop died and I need to get some files out it, so I took the SATA hard drive of my laptop and put it on my desktop. the BIOS on the computer detects the hard drive and Windows XP shows the hard drive in Device Manager, but the partitions on the hard disk does not appear in My Computer or Windows XP Disk Management. I have also tried plugging with a partner and USB drive on another computer. I know my SATA ports on my advice is good, because both have a secondary SATA Hard Drive. The laptop has a bit of life still in the same (about 5 min) and I know it will boot the hard drive to all 3 partitions (XP, Vista and Ubuntu) Dell Inspiron Laptop and a hard disk Hatachi HTS541680J9SA00
SATA laptop drives are usually compatible with desktop computers. I would like to verify that all ports are enabled SATA in the bios … but it seems that you have …. But do not expect to be able to boot from it as your hardware will vary too. Unlikely but not impossible is that the handheld has a bridge on it (usually the handheld, but I have not seen. If not … remove the jumper and try again. Just make sure you know where to put the bridge back to when you plan to put it on the laptop.
